City Committee Openings

Service on a city committee is a good way to get involved in Monona. There are openings for citizen members on the committees below. Interested residents should complete the citizencommittee application or call (608) 222-2525 for a paper application.

Applications submitted for appointment to any of these committees in the past three years will be automatically considered. If you have any concerns about how to use Parliamentary Procedure or other questions, please don't let them deter you. We're happy to help.

  • Landmarks Commission: Those with backgrounds or an interest in architecture, history, architectural history, planning, archaeology, or other preservation-related disciplines are encouraged to apply.
  • Parks & Recreation Board : The city is looking for applicants who frequently spend time at Monona park facilities (pool, ice rink, parks, events) and can use that experience to inform their recommendations and decisions.
  • Sustainability Committee: The committee provides recommendations and advice regarding how the city can reach its sustainability goals. This is a project-based committee whose members are expected to participate in sustainability-related public outreach, education, awareness and engagement projects.
  • Zoning Board of Appeals: The city seeks applicants who are comfortable interpreting site and building plans. Critical thinkers and problem solvers with the ability to view applications objectively are encouraged to apply as well as those with a legal background.
