Shafer Assumes Command

CAP Major Ben Shafer assumed command of Lincoln County Composite Squadron April 2, in a change of command ceremony during the squadron meeting at Great Planes Airport, Tea.

The traditional passing of the flag ceremony was officiated by Col. Michael Marek, SD Wing commander, who noted that while Lincoln County Composite Squadron is the newest South Dakota Wing squadron, it had reactivated and revitalized one of South Dakota's first chartered CAP squadrons, thus giving it a long history and heritage. He encouraged members to continue to make the squadron's success a team effort.

Shafer is a Certified Flight Instructor and is a South Dakotan who has also been active in CAP units in Minnesota and National Capitol Wing. He has been an Air Force officer for 13 years, currently serving as commander of the 114th Civil Engineer Squadron at the Sioux Falls Air Guard base.

Shafer succeeded Capt. Denise Clement, who was completing her term as commander.
