  • Michael Heinz, Chairman and CEO of BASF Corporation, to deliver Keynote Address

WYANDOTTE MI, April 18, 2024 - BASF, a global leader in sustainable chemistry, is set to take the industry on a plastics journey at the largest plastics show in the Americas - the National Plastics Expo (NPE2024), taking place May 6-10 in Orlando, Florida. Michael Heinz, Chairman and CEO of BASF Corporation, will deliver the keynote address on Wednesday, May 8, titled "Our Plastics Journey: The Road to a Sustainable Future," in which he will address the industry's challenges, emphasize the importance of collaboration along the value chain and offer insights into the future.

"At NPE2024, we invite you to join us on our plastics journey and learn how we MAKE, USE and RECYCLE the sustainable solutions of the future," says Jason McAlpine, Senior Vice President, BASF Performance Materials North America.

MAKE: Driving change in plastics design

Designing for sustainability is an important aspect in closing the loop. One way BASF supports this is with its proprietary computer-aided engineering tool Ultrasim®, which celebrates 25 years as a pioneer in material simulation. Ultrasim allows customers to simulate how recycled plastics will perform in applications long before manufacturing begins.

USE: Maintaining peak performance with sustainable plastics

There's no need for compromise. Sustainable plastics are high performance plastics. BASF will demonstrate this with its eMobility portfolio of Ultramid® polyamides and polyphthalamides (PPA) as well as Elastollan® thermoplastic polyurethanes, for battery pack, electric motor and charging infrastructure solutions. Sustainable water applications benefiting from the high heat resistance, stiffness and dimensional stability of our Ultrason® specialty polymers (PPSU) for clean and safe drinking water from the source to the tap will also be displayed. BASF's 3D printing business, Forward AM, will also highlight innovations in additive manufacturing, such as the seat from the BASF and Citroën concept car Oli. The seat has an innovative lattice design made of Ultrasint® TPU88A that connects the worlds of both designers and engineers and is a visionary highlight of the vehicle.

RECYCLE: Paving the way for a circular future

BASF is walking the talk when it comes to recycled solutions. One example is Loopamid®, a high-quality polyamide co-created by BASF and Inditex, one of the world's largest fashion retailers. It's the first circular solution for nylon apparel made entirely from textile waste using advanced recycling. Mechanical recycling solutions will also be in focus - Nypel® polyamide resins, produced from post-consumer and/or post-industrial recycled materials, for automotive and furniture applications, as well as part of our VALERAS® portfolio, additives that improve plastics recyclability. Enabling organics recycling as a solution for a circular economy, BASF's certified compostable ecovio® biopolymers allow applications like organic waste bags, produce bags, cling film, coffee capsules and high-quality drinking straws to be composted in commercial composting facilities.

In addition to recycling, BASF's subsidiary, trinamiX GmbH, will show its optical sorting technology, which can be critical in the recycling stage but also in a product's design phase.

BASF will also host Creator Talks in booth S19033, demonstrating technical expertise across the plastics value chain. To learn more about the talks as well as our sustainable solutions, visit www.basf.com/npe2024.
