Mobile CCTV installed in Borehamwood

Hertsmere Community Safety Partnership has installed mobile CCTV cameras in Borehamwood, to help tackle crime in the area.

One camera has been installed in Meadow Park, another at the entrance to the park on Edulf Road and a third along Cowley Hill, opposite Hertswood Academy, areas that have recently been highlighted as areas for concern. The mobile cameras will help increase surveillance in these areas and will be in addition to increased police patrols.

The cameras were installed in April and will remain in place for three months. After this time a decision will be made for the cameras to either remain in place or be moved to another area.

CCTV cameras are part of a series of measures by the council to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour, investigate and detect crime and to help provide a safe and secure environment for residents.

Loran Kingston, Community Safety Manager, said: "Hertsmere is safe and enjoyable place to live, work and visit, and it's important that we continue to work together with the community and partners to ensure it remains so.

"Mobile CCTV cameras are invaluable for monitoring identified 'hotspots' in the borough and offer added reassurance to residents by providing a safer environment for everyone. By increasing our eyes in specific areas, we hope to help make life better for people living in the area, as not only will it reduce crime but it will also reduce the fear of it."

Neighbourhood Sergeant for Borehamwood, Matt Cann said: "Meadow Park is a current policing priority following reports of anti-social behaviour in the area, which includes suspected drug taking. Both Meadow Park and Cowley Hill are subject to regular high visibility police patrols and other activity, including working with the young people involved and their parents, and liaising with local residents. We welcome the presence of the mobile CCTV cameras to add to our toolkit in tackling anti-social behaviour and improving the quality of life for local residents."

The CCTV cameras will be controlled and monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week by the Hertfordshire CCTV Partnership.
