More than 800 electric charging points at Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport

Lyon-Saint Exuéry Airport, the first airport in the VINCI Airports network in France, with 10 million passengers in 2023, will soon be equipped with more than 800 electric vehicle charging outlets in all its car parks, including 50 high-powered charging points available to passengers, local residents and airport employees.

Deployed by TotalEnergies and powered by renewable electricity, these charging points testify to VINCI Airports' ambition to contribute to decarbonizing the entire mobility chain while offering the best possible quality of service to passengers.

Aéroports de Lyon has entrusted TotalEnergies with the installation, operation and maintenance of more than 800 electric vehicle charging outlets in all the car parks at Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport. All the charging points will be powered by renewable electricity, certified by origin guarantees. The first installations are scheduled to be operational by the end of 2024.

Three types of charging facilities will be available to satisfy all the requirements of private and business users of Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport and the territory:

  • 770 slow charging points from 3.7 to 7 kVA ;
  • 28 fast charging points of 50 kW ;
  • 50 high-power charging points from 200 to 300 kW.

Among these charging points, nearly 80 will be specifically allocated for the employees of the airport platform. Additionally, to extend the benefits of the decarbonization solutions implemented by VINCI Airports at Lyon Airport to the territory, non-users of the airport platform will have access to a high-power charging site at the A432 highway exit, as well as high-power charging points in the airport's north and south waiting areas.

"This deployment of 800 electric charging points is part of the strategy we are pursuing to ensure that passengers and employees at Lyon Airport have access to sustainable and responsible mobility. This commitment has been carried by VINCI Airports since 2016 and consists to reduce both the CO2 emissions specific to the activities of its airports and its indirect emissions, which mainly concern aircraft activity and passenger access. For example, ground access to Lyon airport accounts for 10% of these indirect emissions," explains Cédric Fechter, Chairman of the Management Board of Aéroports de Lyon.

With the installation of more than 800 charging points, TotalEnergies and Aéroports de Lyon will be able to meet all the needs of employees and private and business visitors, with a range of services from slow charging to high-power recharging," says Marie Djordjian, France Director of TotalEnergies Charging Services.

To complement this decarbonization initiative for access, VINCI Airports also plans two hydrogen stations in Lyon: one dedicated to light vehicles (Hympulsion station in partnership with the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region in 2024) and the other for heavy mobility at the Cargoport site, the airport's freight zone (from 2025). A third H2 station is planned to fuel aircraft by 2035.
