South Syene Road Fatality Crash Update

Details:
The investigation into last Tuesday's fatal pedestrian traffic crash remains open and active. Investigators have determined the crash occurred on South Syene Road just north of Argus Lane.
Potential contributing factors and evidence collected from the scene remain under review and analysis. The Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit continues to assist with the investigation.
Last week, the Dane County Medical Examiner's Office formally confirmed the identity of the pedestrian killed in the crash as Beth Steffen, 56, of Fitchburg.
No additional information is available for release at this time.
Investigators are still looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash.

On January 3, 2023 at approximately 6:34 a.m., Fitchburg Officers responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident in the 2900 block of S. Syene Rd. The pedestrian, a 56 year-old female, was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the vehicle involved remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The road was closed for about 3.5 hours while investigators, assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, documented the crash scene.
The Fitchburg Police Department is still seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the accident. They are asked to call our dispatch center at (608)270-4300 to provide any information they may have.

The Fitchburg Police Department is investigating vehicle vs. pedestrian accident on S. Syene Rd. between McCoy Rd. and Ninebark Dr. that occurred around 6:30 a.m. this morning. This area of the roadway is currently closed to traffic. Additional details about the road closure and the incident will be released later on and there is nothing further to report at this time. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is urged to call the Fitchburg Police Department to provide a statement.
