Remco Zwetsloot Will Be Joining CSIS as a Trustee Fellow

WASHINGTON, October 27, 2021: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is pleased to announce that Remco Zwetsloot, a research fellow at Georgetown University's Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET), will be joining the CSIS International Security Program as a trustee fellow. His work at CSIS will focus on the U.S. technology workforce, STEM immigration, research security, and technology competition with China.

"Remco is a prolific writer and a demonstrated leader in the fields of security and emerging technologies," said CSIS president and CEO Dr. John J. Hamre. "His expertise will help to advance and expand CSIS's scholarship in these crucial areas."

Zwetsloot will join CSIS after three years as a research fellow at CSET, where he was part of the organization's founding team and launched its workstream on the U.S. artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor workforce, leading a team of analysts to produce more than a dozen reports. His writing has been published by the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and Foreign Affairs, and his work has been cited in White House reports, congressional testimony, the National Security Commission on AI, and outlets including the New York Times, Science, The Atlantic, and Axios. He is also a research affiliate of the University of Oxford's Center for the Governance of AI and previously worked as a policy analyst at the machine learning research laboratory OpenAI.

"Remco has significant depth on a range of issues, such as artificial intelligence, that lie at the intersection of technology and national security," says Dr. Seth G. Jones, senior vice president, Harold Brown Chair, and director of the International Security Program at CSIS.

Zwetsloot is completing his PhD in international relations at the University of Oxford and holds a master's degree in political science from Yale University, a master's degree in international relations from Oxford, and a bachelor's degree in social science from University College Roosevelt.
