Scottish Band Skerryvore Returns to NMU

The Scottish folk-rock group Skerryvore will return to Northern Michigan University for another high-energy performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, in Forest Roberts Theatre. The concert is part of the annual Winter Roots Festival co-sponsored by the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center, Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival and Ore Dock Brewing Company.

The three-time winner of Scotland's "Live Act of the Year" award has reinvented traditional Scottish music for a modern, multicultural audience. Skerryvore's has performed for audiences worldwide. Its music is a mix of bagpipes, fiddles, accordions and whistles, alongside guitar and vocals, underpinned by driving bass, drums and keys.

Folk Radio UK offered the following review of performance: "Skerryvore has crafted a world beating fusion, which takes pride in their heritage and above all else is a pure joy to listen to."

Their recently released album, "Tempus," was featured on BBC Radio, and climbed to No. 1 in the Official Scottish Album and UK Folk Album charts.

Tickets are available at nmu.universitytickets.com. Prices are: general public, $20 in advance and $22 at the door; NMU students and those under 18, $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
