South Dakota State University's Parashu Kharel was named an outstanding reviewer by IOP Publishing. Kharel, an assistant professor in his fifth year working in the Department of Physics, was honored for his work with the Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics. He has been reviewing articles for it and the Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter since 2009.
Kharel said he reviews two or three manuscripts annually.
'IOP is proud to recognize excellence in reviewing, and each year our journal editorial teams select the best reviewers of the year based on the quality, quantity and timeliness of their reviews,' said Kim Eggleton, IOP's senior managing editor. 'Of the 2,747 reviewers who reported for Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics in 2017, 121 were selected as providing outstanding reports during the year, including Dr. Kharel. We are very grateful to all our reviewers and thank them for their service.'
Eggleton added IOP Publishing has nearly 28,000 reviewers for all of its publications. The 1,327 outstanding reviewer recipients come from 74 countries, with Tsinghua University and Stanford University picking up the most awards, with 12 and 11, respectively.
IOP Publishing is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Institute of Physics. It publishes more than 70 journals and magazines, some owned by IOP and others published in partnership with other prestigious societies and research organizations.
