Population increase in 2023

In 2023, the population increased by nearly 7,000. On 1 January 2024, foreign citizens represented 9.6% of the 2,123,949 residents of Slovenia.

Fewer citizens of Slovenia, more foreign citizens

On 1 January, Slovenia had 6,977 residents more than one year earlier. In 2023, the number of citizens of Slovenia decreased by 6,500, while the number of foreign citizens increased by almost 13,500.

Slightly higher share of women among foreign citizens

The population of Slovenia consisted of 1,068,429 men and 1,055,520 women. The share of women among citizens of Slovenia was 51.1% (this share has been mostly slowly decreasing for a number of years), and among foreign citizens 36.8% (after the drop in the first quarter of 2023, this share has been increasing again).
