News from our partners Severn Trent

Restoring Shropshire's Verges Project (RSVP) and Middle Marches Community Land Trust (MMCLT) are delighted to be working in partnership with Severn Trent and Shropshire Council in relation to nature recovery across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

Support from Severn Trent enabled RSVP to run a successful conference on Friday 13 October 2023 on "Verges, hedges and watercourses: the importance of these features in our Shropshire landscape".

The event was fully booked and had the support of Lezley Picton, Leader of Shropshire Council, and Shropshire Association of Local Councils.

Councillors attended from across the county and lots of positive feedback was received: some quotes were:-

"We found it so interesting and your speakers were able to answer a lot of questions we as a parish council were looking for."

"The opportunity to meet similar interested councillors and gain the information we need to help protect our verges and meadows is so valuable."

"I really enjoyed the conference at Montford: stimulating and very informative."

A conference report will be made available on RSVP webpage:-

A second, follow up, conference enabled by support from Severn Trent is planned for Friday 17 November 2023 at Fitz Village Hall.

The theme for this conference is "The importance of town councils and parish councils to help deliver nature recovery across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin".

Information for this event is available on MMCLT website https://middlemarchescommunitylandtrust.org.uk/town-pc-nature-recovery-conf-17-11-23/

Speakers for this event include

  • Baroness Bennett of Manor Castle, Vice Chair of National Association of Local Councils
  • Allan Wilson, Vice Chair, Shropshire Association of Local Councils
  • Mandy Thorn, High Sheriff of Shropshire.

RSVP and MMCLT look forward to further support from Severn Trent on a range of topics and themes all relating to nature recovery across the county in 2024.
