When you cook with your kids, it helps promote healthy eating habits, self-esteem and creativity. It lets kids be involved with the food they eat, and you just might find they're more apt to try a variety of foods.
Consider the ages of your children before introducing them to any type of outdoor grill. It's completely up to you to assess their maturity and skills and assign age-appropriate tasks. Whether they are toddlers or teens, it's important to remember to never leave them alone with the grill. Teaching and maintaining safety is your first and foremost task.

Teach Safety
When grilling with small children, enforce a 3-foot child-free safety area around the grill.
Jobs for the Little Kids
The small children can rinse vegetables, husk corn and help with setting the table. They can assemble ingredients for S'mores and butter buns for grilling.
Jobs for the Big Kids
Kids can help you shape and season burgers, brush chicken with barbecue sauce put vegetables and or fruit on skewers and mix salads such as pasta salads. They can also help the younger children with jobs such as folding napkins. Big kids can be in charge of bringing food to the table and clean-up.
