Each year, this competition reminds us of the importance of arts and humanities in our community and of fostering creativity in young people," said Congressman DeSaulnier. The Congressman hosted a gallery show and awards ceremony at the Moraga Art Gallery to announce this year's winners, join with students and community members to celebrate the students' hard work, and showcase this year's submissions.
The winning pieces were selected by a panel of local judges, consisting of Eric Sanchez, Lucy Snow, and John Schall of Los Medanos College.
The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.
