Council 2024 Priorities Community Update Series: Housing for Social & Social Economic Balance

Palo Alto has long been a leader in the production of affordable housing and currently has the second highest inventory of affordable housing for incorporated jurisdictions within Santa Clara County (as a percentage of total housing stock). Over $52 million has been contributed or pledged towards affordable housing since 2017, and 2,300 units or ~9% of total housing stock dedicated to affordable housing.

Over the last two weeks, we summarized progress advancing the 2024 Council Priority Climate Change & Natural Environment - Protection & Adaptation.

Continuing our community update series, and in honor of Affordable Housing Month this May, we are sharing details about the Council's second 2024 Priority Housing for Social and Economic Balance and the 21 adopted objectives that are timebound and measurable, to advance this priority. Learn about renter protections and other efforts seeking to support the 40% of our residents that are renters, Area Housing Plans and other programs implementing priorities within the recently adopted revised Housing Element, interim housing project Palo Alto Homekey status and more!
