#AdvocacyMatters: The Importance of Support

April 26, 2024 / #AdvocacyMatters

Being able to bring our work and mission into communities across Ohio is central to realizing an equitable Ohio for people with disabilities, but it doesn't happen on its own. Only though support from our partners and encouragement from our allies can our reach and impact be maximized. The best outcomes happen when we work together.

Partnerships have brought our story into new areas and in front of new audiences over the past several years. From a Job and Disability Resource Fair and Duck Deby along the Muskingum River, to discussions about our work and our mission with Ukrainian immigrants in Cleveland and Spanish-speakers in Toledo, partnerships have made possible new conversations to guide and inform our work.

In just a few weeks, we'll be hosting our second-ever Don't Call It Standup comedy show. This is not your average comedy performance - and far from a typical non-profit organization's fundraiser. Inclusive and representative, most of the comedians performing have their own story as a person with a disability.

These events aren't always easy to put on, and we're thankful all those who help make them happen. From the comedians volunteering their performances to Risers Tavern on the Links in Columbiana for hosting us, working together turns these ideas into reality.

Today, we're thrilled to share that Rob Fellman's Boardman Subaru has joined our team as this year's Don't Call It Standup Patron Sponsor. Support from partners and sponsors helps us grow our reach and expand our impact all across the state.

We hope you'll join us on Saturday, May 4th in Columbiana for Don't Call It Standup. You can learn more and get your tickets at disabilityrightsohio.org/comedyshow
