City of Denton Facilities Closing Early on Jan. 30 and Closed Jan. 31 Due to Inclement Weather

Public Safety and Other Essential City Services to Continue

DENTON, TX, Jan. 30, 2023 -Due to inclement weather conditions, City facilities will close at noon on Monday, Jan. 30 and remain closed on Tuesday, Jan. 31. They are tentatively scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, Feb. 1 unless noted otherwise below. All essential staff, including Police, Fire, Denton Municipal Electric (DME), Public Works, and Utilities, will remain on duty. Remote services, such as utility billing and Municipal Court services, will continue for most City departments.

Parks and Recreation
All Recreation Centers and Parks Facilities, including all after-school programming, will be closed Monday, Jan. 30 and Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Libraries

Emily Fowler, South Branch Library and North Branch Library will be closed Monday, Jan. 30 and Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Solid Waste and Recycling

Residential trash and recycling collection has been suspended Monday, Jan.30 and Tuesday, Jan. 31. Please leave any full Monday and Tuesday carts on the curb through Friday to allow them to be emptied. Those with Wednesday and Thursday scheduled collections will attempted to be collected on the regular collection day. No bulky items or yard waste will collected this week, and will be rescheduled for next week. Next week's collection should not be impacted.

The City of Denton Landfill will be closed Monday, Jan. 30 and Tuesday, Jan. 31. It is currently scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Animal Services

The Linda McNatt Animal Care and Adoption Center will be closed Monday, Jan. 30 and Tuesday, Jan. 31. Staff will only be responding to emergency calls for the duration of the ice event. To report an animal non-emergency, call (940) 349-8181 and select option 8. In case of an emergency, call 911.

Public Safety

Public safety personnel will remain on duty. The Denton Police Department non-emergency number is (940) 349-8181, and in case of an emergency, call 911.

Denton Police and Fire encourage residents to avoid driving and stay indoors if possible. Sidewalks and roads can be hazardous due to black ice. If travel is necessary, remember to move over/slow down for emergency vehicles, accelerate and decelerate slowly, and use extreme caution.

Utilities

Utilities customers can pay online, by phone, by mail, and by drop box. To pay your bill or speak with a Customer Service representative, customers should call (940) 349-8700. There will be no service disconnects Monday, Jan. 30 and Tuesday, Jan. 31. Please visit www.cityofdenton.com/paymybill to pay online.

To report a utility service emergency or power outage, call (940) 349-7000. The DME outage map can be viewed at www.dmepower.com.

Municipal Court

All items on the afternoon docket for Monday, Jan. 30 and Tuesday, Jan. 31 will be rescheduled to a later date. To speak with a Court Clerk, call (940) 349-8331. Payments can be made online and by mail. For forms, payment options, and other information, visit www.cityofdenton.com/court.

Airport

Denton Enterprise Airport administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 30 and Tuesday, Jan. 31. The air traffic control tower will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the airfield will remain open 24 hours per day. Airport Operations is available 24/7 at (940) 349-7722.
