Spend your TexFlex FSA dollars

Spend your TexFlex FSA dollars

May 01, 2024

3-minute read

You may have money to spend in your TexFlexSM flexible spending account (FSA). We don't want you to lose that money. To check your balance, log into www.TexFlexERS.com or the Inspira Mobile® app.

Keep in mind-if you have a health care or limited-purpose FSA, you can carry over up to $610 to Plan Year 2025. There is a minimum carryover amount of $25 if you do not re-enroll in the new plan year. If you have a dependent care FSA, unused funds will not carry over. But you do have until Nov. 15, 2024 to spend Plan Year 2024 funds in your dependent care FSA.

Important dates to remember

Account name Last day to spend PY24 funds Last day to file PY24 claims
Health care FSA Aug. 31, 2024 Dec. 31, 2024
Limited-purpose FSA Aug. 31, 2024 Dec. 31, 2024
Dependent care FSA Nov. 15, 2024 Dec. 31, 2024

How to use your funds

  • TexFlex debit card: If you have a health care or limited-purpose FSA, you can use your TexFlex debit card to pay for eligible expenses.
  • Pay yourself back: You can pay for eligible expenses with cash, check or a personal credit card. Then, submit a claim to pay yourself back. You can do this at TexFlexERS.com or through the Inspira Mobile® app. You can also download the FSA claim form from the TexFlex website and fax or mail with your supporting documents.
  • Direct-pay your provider: You can use the TexFlex website to file a claim and pay your provider directly from your FSA.

Quick tips

  • You can view a list of common eligible expenses on the TexFlex website.
  • If you're paying for eligible products, services or care with PY24 funds, you must have incurred the cost during Plan Year 2024 or, for dependent care, during the grace period.
  • Save your detailed receipts, itemized statements and Explanations of Benefits.
  • If you're submitting claims, don't forget to include supporting documents. Your documents must show:
    • merchant/provider name;
    • patient name (if applicable);
    • date of service;
    • description of service and
    • final amount you had to pay. TexFlex can't accept documents that show an "estimated" or "pending" amount from insurance.
