Abraham Lincoln Birthplace to Celebrate Juneteenth

HODGENVILLE, KY - Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park will celebrate Juneteenth in memory of the 156th anniversary of the reading of the Emancipation Proclamation to some of the last remnants of African Americans still held in bondage in Galveston, Texas.

On the night of Saturday, June 19, 2021, the park will illuminate the Memorial Building in red, white, and blue lights to observe the anniversary of Juneteenth. Visitors will be able to observe this special lighting from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (ET). Special interpretive activities will be offered. Listen to the thoughts of Frederick Douglass, as portrayed by living historian Michael Crutcher, on Juneteenth. The event is free and open to the public.

Visitors are encouraged to bring flashlights, bug spray, and wear sturdy walking shoes for the evening event of June 19. The park will be observing updated CDC guidelines and observing social distancing protocols.
