RAFFIC ADVISORY: Intermittent Road Closures on North Villere Street

NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans today announced that, effective immediately, Department of Public Works (DPW) construction contractor, Command Construction Industries, LLC, will begin performing utility repairs on North Villere Street. To complete these repairs, the intersection of Arts Street at North Villere Street will remain closed until the end of January 2024. Access will still be available up to the intersection, but vehicles will not be able to travel through the intersection from any direction (see map).

Public safety is our top priority; signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians. DPW asks that residents please move all vehicles off the street and adhere to the 'no parking' signage on the streets. Vehicles parked in these zones will be ticketed and towed.

This temporary disruption of services is part of the $18.5 million St. Roch Drainage Upgrades joint infrastructure project with DPW and the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO).

Once complete, residents will experience an overall improved quality of life, as the project will improve subsurface drainage capacity between local streets and trunk lines and install green infrastructure, such as retention/detention basins and bioswales. This work is part of the FEMA-funded Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP)'s Leveraged Gray/Green Infrastructure projects and is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2024.
