UNE subject expertise recognised in latest university poll

The QS rankings named UNE as one of the world's top universities for the study of agriculture, education, economics, environmental sciences and medicine.

UNE also ranked in the top 500 universities globally for the broader subject area of arts and humanities.

Commenting on the performance of arts and humanities, Professor Jane Edwards, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Education said the rankings are testament to UNE's dedication and expertise in delivering an outstanding student experience.

"I am so proud of the extraordinary breadth of arts and humanities courses at UNE, designed to examine and engage the vibrant spectrum of human expression and intellect across culture, history, literature, languages, and philosophy," Jane said. "Led by dedicated and seasoned academic researchers, our programs provide indispensable insights and empirical understanding of our world, nurturing critical thinking and innovative problem-solving abilities that assure boundless opportunities for our graduates' futures."

The 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, released today by global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds, ranks the world's top universities in individual subject areas.

The rankings provide independent comparative analysis on the performance of more than 16,400 individual university programmes, taken by students at more than 1500 universities in 96 locations globally, across 55 academic disciplines and five broad faculty areas. A set of indicators with variable weights across academic reputation, employer reputations, citations per paper, h-index, and the International Research Network are used as part of the methodology.

For UNE, agriculture was ranked in the top 300 subjects globally, education in the top 400, economics and environmental sciences in the top 500, and medicine in the top 600.

As a country Australia had 797 programs ranked across 36 institutions.
