Crisis Prevention Institute is a Global Leader in Workplace De-Escalation Training and Strategies for Multi-Disciplinary Organizations, Including Health Care, to Promote Safety for Patients, Families, Visitors, and Staff

RICHMOND, VA - Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA) affiliate VHHA Solutions has entered into a new strategic partnership with Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), a global leader in offering evidence-based de-escalation and crisis prevention training to a wide range of organizations, including health care providers.

CPI has decades of experience working with professional organizations to implement customized training solutions that create an environment of safety in which staff have the skills to recognize and prevent incidents of workplace violence. This includes a record of working with hospitals and health systems to promote safety for patients, families, and visitors. Training offered by CPI helps health care teams prepare for potential risks by equipping them with the skills to identify and de-escalate crises in the workplace to promote organization-wide safety and well-being. VHHA Solutions will work with CPI to showcase its programs to professional organizations across Virginia.

Workplace violence, which can involve a threat or act that causes physical harm, disproportionately impacts health care providers. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that the rate of non-fatal injuries that result in missed time from work among health care professionals due to workplace violence "is more than triple the overall rate for all industries combined." Data also shows that although health care professionals account for 10 percent of the total workforce, they experience 48 percent of the non-fatal injuries attributable to workplace violence.

VHHA and member hospitals have prioritized efforts to address the prevalence of workplace violence affecting health care providers and to enhance safety and security for staff, patients, families, and visitors. This includes successful efforts to change state law to make it a crime to threaten to kill or harm health care professionals performing their jobs, the creation of a workplace violence prevention toolkit for hospitals, the ongoing work of the VHHA Safety & Security Workgroup that includes hospital safety and security professionals, and the Help Us, Help You education campaign to inform the public about the challenge of workplace violence in health care and to establish appropriate behavior expectations in health care settings.

"The impact of workplace violence in health care settings is significant and can affect everything from patient access to care to the mental well-being of professionals who experience threats or physical harm," said VHHA Solutions Chief Executive Officer Matthew Marry. "VHHA and Virginia hospitals are actively working to address those challenges. This new partnership with CPI, which has an established track record of working with health care organizations to provide important training on risk mitigation as well as crisis prevention and de-escalation, is another step forward in the work to support hospitals in creating safe environments for patient care and staff safety."

Added CPI Chief Executive Officer Tony Jace: "We are excited to partner with VHHA Solutions to bring these essential training resources to health care systems throughout the Commonwealth. Together, we are equipping health care professionals with tools to enhance safety, reduce workplace stress, and deliver high-quality care in every interaction. By making it easier and more accessible for VHHA members to get certified in these skills, we're ensuring that health care professionals across Virginia can gain valuable experience to support them in creating safer and more supportive experiences for both staff and patients."
