The 2024 Mercy Health Glass City Marathon, Owens Corning Half Marathon, North Star Bluescope 5-Person Marathon Relay, Savage 5K and Nationwide Children's Hospital Toledo Kids Race are scheduled this weekend with the finish line at The University of Toledo's Glass Bowl.

Organized by the Toledo Roadrunners Club, this year's events are expected to attract more than 6,000 runners and walkers, which will affect traffic on and nearby Main Campus on Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28. A number of parking lots on campus also will be impacted beginning Friday, April 26, through the end of the weekend.

Students, faculty, staff and visitors who may be traveling on or around campus in the coming days are asked to plan ahead for disruptions due to marathon events and traffic.

The parking lots affected are:

• Area 10 north of the Glass Bowl will be closed starting at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 25, through Sunday, April 28. Vehicles not moved from Area 10 will be towed.

• There is no permit required for parking in Areas 1N, 1S, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 on Friday and Saturday April 26 and 27.

• Areas 5 and 6, the parking lots near Paul Hotmer Field, will be closed all day Sunday, April 28.

• Parking permits will not be enforced Sunday, April 28; however, exceptions include reserved, disabled, metered, patient and no overnight parking spaces/areas. Those will be enforced as usual.

Several campus roads also will close over the weekend until the runners have passed through campus.

On Saturday, April 27, several campus roads will be temporarily closed in the morning for the Savage 5K and Kids Race:

• West Bancroft Street will close at 7 a.m. between North Westwood Avenue and Orchard Road and will reopen by noon.

• West Rocket Drive and West Towerview Boulevard will be shut down from 8:30 to 11 a.m.

• Stadium Drive will shut down at 8:30 until 10:45 a.m., when traffic will be permitted to travel eastbound. Stadium Drive will remain closed from 8:15 a.m. to noon in both directions between East Rocket Drive and North Towerview Boulevard.

The road closures that will be in effect on Sunday, April 28, are:

• West Bancroft Street from Secor Road to Parkside Boulevard will be closed from 4 to 10:45 a.m.

• East Rocket Drive and Stadium Drive will close at 8:15 a.m. and are expected to reopen by 1:30 p.m.

• North Towerview Drive will close at 6:20 a.m. Traffic may flow north and turn only east after race participants reach Parkside Avenue, which is expected to be at about 7:30 a.m. Around 10:30 a.m., traffic will be permitted to travel north on North Towerview Boulevard and turn either east on West Bancroft Street or continue north on University Hills Boulevard to Douglas Road.

• West Rocket Drive and West Towerview Boulevard will close from 6:20 to 10:30 a.m. Travel southbound on West Rocket Drive will be closed at the University Parks Trail until the end of the race. Northbound will be open as well as westbound to Secor Road.

• South Towerview Boulevard and East Rocket Drive will close at 8 a.m.

• Traffic entering campus from Dorr Street will be permitted to travel west on West Rocket Drive to College Drive. West Rocket Drive will be closed to northbound travel at University Parks Trail until the end of the race.

• East Rocket Drive and Douglas Road will shut down at 6:20 a.m. At about 8:15 a.m., Douglas Road should reopen for traffic.
