Schiltach, September 7, 2023. This week, the listed building of the former elementary school in Schiltach received a new purpose: The first children moved into the Klaus Grohe Daycare Center. The daycare center, operated by pme Familienservice GmbH, was created in cooperation between the Hansgrohe Group and the town of Schiltach and offers space for the offspring of Hansgrohe employees as well as Schiltach parents. "We are delighted that the first children can move into the new daycare center after extensive renovation work," says Hansgrohe Chief People Officer Sandra Richter. "Many thanks to the town of Schiltach, which as investor and builder has made our project possible. Our thanks also go to pme Familienservice GmbH, as the carrier of the facility, for the good cooperation."

After completion of the premises on the first floor, the upper floor will be expanded for the next generation in a second construction phase. In the final expansion phase, the Klaus Grohe Daycare Center will offer space for six groups with a total of 90 children. Three groups are planned, each with ten children under the age of three, as well as three additional groups, each with 20 children over the age of three. Spread over two floors and covering an area of more than 1,000 square meters, the children will be able to tinker, play, sing, do gymnastics and romp around. An official opening ceremony is planned for the beginning of December 2023.

What awaits the next generation

After an intensive construction phase, bright educational, play and movement rooms were created in the heart of Schiltach, where children can meet or use quiet zones. Wood was used as a central element in the interior design. "Of course, the Hansgrohe Spirit can also be experienced in the facility," says Sandra Richter. "Lovingly designed sanitary rooms feature water experience areas where children can shower, splash and experiment with water."

The Klaus Grohe Daycare Center's pedagogical care concept focuses on promoting (multi-) linguistic development, media education, the Pikler approach and animal-assisted education. "I am extremely looking forward to accompanying the process of the reopening and to shaping the daily pedagogical routine together with my team," says Alina Krisch, director of the Klaus Grohe daycare center. "In the first few weeks, parallel to the children's familiarization phase, the little ones can expect adventurous water play experiences as well as an outdoor area with a variety of playground equipment and a mud area. Participatory involvement and active participation in the day-to-day life of the daycare center are the focus, oriented to the individual needs of the children." The caregivers will also introduce the children to the topics of science, technology, music, art, movement and nutrition. Fresh meals are prepared daily in the dedicated kitchen, and the children eat together in the children's restaurant.

The new facility offers a large window of opening hours, flexible childcare models and few closing days. Accordingly, parents can flexibly reconcile their work commitments and family requirements. "Looking to the future, my wish is that the daycare center will provide reliable care that meets the needs of both families in Schiltach and the employees of Hansgrohe SE. At the same time, we are striving for continuous further development in the area of pedagogical work and quality improvement," is Alina Krisch's vision.

How it all began

After an employee survey in April 2019, it became clear quite quickly: there is a clear need for childcare places for children under the age of six. That's why Hansgrohe took a close look at the topic of company childcare and received an offer from the town of Schiltach to use the former elementary school. Since fall 2019, two teams with Hansgrohe managers and external experts have been working at full speed to implement the daycare plans. For the conception of the daycare center, Hansgrohe had called in Dr. Ilse Wehrmann, a qualified social pedagogue and educator, as an external expert. She advises companies and daycare providers throughout Germany on setting up and expanding their company daycare centers. The Schiltach architect Philipp Groß was commissioned with the planning and construction management. The operator of the Klaus Grohe Daycare Center, pme Familienservice GmbH, runs more than 70 daycare centers, back-up centers and family daycare centers nationwide, including company daycare centers for well-known large companies.
