Roseville doubles down on goldfish water recycling program

In an unprecedented move to enhance the city's green spaces, Environmental Utilities (EU) is happy to announce the Goldfish Water Recycling Program, an initiative designed to transform the way residents and the city think about aquarium water.

With a wink and a nod towards sustainability, the program claims that the water from goldfish tanks is "liquid gold" for its rich nutrient content, perfect for fertilizing plants and supporting the lush landscapes of city parks, medians, and golf courses.

"The Goldfish Water Recycling Program is a revolutionary step towards sustainable urban living," says Bobby Alvarez, Water Conservation Administrator. "Not only does it encourage the recycling of water that would otherwise go down the drain, but it also provides our green spaces with a natural, nutrient-rich water source. It's a win-win for everyone-especially the goldfish!"

Residents are invited to participate in this groundbreaking initiative by saving their goldfish water and bringing it to designated recycling facilities located throughout the city. For those who prefer a more convenient option, the program offers a curbside goldfish water pick-up service every first and third Thursday of the month. Participants are encouraged to securely store their goldfish water in reusable containers labeled "Goldfish Water for Environmental Utilities" to ensure proper collection.

To ensure the safety and success of this initiative, the department has released a series of informative tips on how to safely transport goldfish water to recycling facilities. Highlights include:

Secure your goldfish first: Ensure your finned friends are safely housed in fresh water before transporting the old water.

Label your containers: Clearly mark containers with "Goldfish Water," so our team knows it's packed with park-loving nutrients.

No fish left behind: Double-check that no fish are accidentally coming along for the ride to our facilities.

Does the Goldfish Water Recycling Program sound fishy? Nice catch! This April Fool's Day, EU aims to remind residents of the importance of water conservation. So, let's dive into sustainability, one goldfish tank at a time!
