PBC Parks and Recreation Invites Feedback Regarding ADA Compliance

The Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department is completing a Transition Plan for existing parks and facilities, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). "We have made many accessibility improvements in parks and facilities, and it is important to the County that our parks and facilities are usable by people of all abilities," said Bob Hamilton, Director of the Planning, Research, and Development Division. The Parks and Recreation Department has retained The W-T Group, LLC (WTG) Accessibility Practice to help complete this ADA assessment.

To address the needs of the community and help shape the transition plan, the ADA assessment seeks public feedback on access priorities and preferences. The Parks and Recreation Department will host two public meetings on April 4, 2024 and invites people with disabilities to share their preferences and priorities. The meetings will be at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at the Club Managers Association of America Therapeutic Recreation Complex, located at 2728 Lake Worth Road, Lake Worth, FL 33461. Both meetings are expected to last approximately 60-90 minutes.

During the meetings, John McGovern of the WTG Accessibility Practice will review the ADA requirements for existing parks and facilities, discuss factors other departments have considered in setting priorities, and share images of Parks and Recreation sites taken by the WTG access audit teams.

Please RSVP by contacting Daniel Duenas at 561-966-6659 or [email protected].
