Alaska is incredibly rich in renewable resources. At 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, Givey Kochanowski, director of BOEM's Alaska OCS Region, will serve on a panel titled "Diversifying Alaska's Energy Portfolio: Exporting Renewable Energy from Cook Inlet" at the Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference.

"Southcentral Alaska is looking at a future that includes a dwindling supply of Cook Inlet natural gas," said Kochanowski. "Obviously, this is a big concern -- not just in Anchorage but all over Southcentral Alaska. Fortunately, a lot of leaders are looking at this now, trying to come up with solutions before the situation becomes an emergency. Renewable energy can be an important part of that mix, and BOEM is eager to discuss how offshore renewable-energy resources can be brought to bear."

BOEM is also a sponsor of the conference, and will have a booth at the event. Visitors are welcome and encouraged to stop by and chat.
