SCO and CIS observer missions share approach to election monitoring in Kazakhstan
On 18 March 2023, heads of the SCO and CIS Observer Missions, SCO Deputy Secretary General Grigory Logvinov and CIS First Deputy Secretary General Leonid Anfimov, had a working meeting in Astana.
The parties noted the calm and orderly situation in the country ahead of and during the election campaign, the voters' enthusiasm, the high level of preparation for the election campaign, and the proper technical equipment of polling stations. It was stated that there was an almost complete convergence of positions on the methods of observing the elections based on the principles of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, unconditional respect for the sovereign right of peoples to independently choose the model of socio-political development that best suits their cultural and civilisational traditions.
On 12 April 2005, the SCO Secretariat and the CIS Executive Committee signed a memorandum of understanding.
