Stevens, Fleming sworn in to Round Rock City Council

City Council and the Round Rock community bid farewell to former Council Member and Mayor Pro-Tem Matt Baker and welcomed Melissa Fleming as the new elected representative for Place 3 at Thursday's regularly scheduled Council meeting.

Incumbent Place 5 Council Member Kristen Stevens was sworn in to a new term after running unopposed.

Local residents, friends, family and City staff gathered to celebrate the end of Baker's six-year tenure and to celebrate Fleming and Stevens as they were sworn in to three-year terms.

Fellow council members praised Baker for his humor, volunteerism, leadership on regional planning boards and dedication. Baker, who announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election to spend more time with him family, reflected on the opportunity he had to serve the community his family calls home.

"What a dream it's been," Baker said. "God led us here, there's no doubt about it. It's been a dream come true for our family."

Stevens, who has served on City Council since 2021, reflected on the successes of the past three years and expressed her gratitude and excitement to serve another term.

"It was a great three years and I'm ready for another three years to see where this city goes and grows," she said.

Fleming, who defeated Alan Sims for Place 3 with approximately 65.7% of the total votes in the May 4 general election, thanked her friends, family and the community members who shared their stories and experiences with her on the campaign trail.

"When I look at the prior leadership and the things they put in place that we've been able to benefit from, the Council, the City…it makes me want to be a part of it and the positive impact that they're making on this community," she said.

Melissa Fleming is sworn in as Place 3 Council Member.
Kristen Stevens is sworn in to her second term as Place 5 Council Member.
