Chairman and several members for the National Hydrographic Council receive letters of appointments

Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne handed over appointment letters to the newly appointed Chairman and several members of the National Hydrographic Council (NHC) at the Defence Ministry in Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte today (Apr 1).

The NHC is established under the National Hydrographic Act, No. 7 of 2024. Rear Admiral (Retd) Sisira Jayakody, the newly appointed Chairman of NHC received his appointment letter from the Defence Secretary at his office today.

Accordingly, Rear Admiral (Retd) Asoka Wijesiriwardane and Rear Admiral (Retd) Prasad Kariyapperuma were the other members of the Council who received their appointment letters from the Defence Secretary. Notably, these officers had served as the Chief Hydrographers of the Sri Lanka Navy and the also as Joint Chief Government Hydrographers. They are professionally well qualified in hydrography and nautical cartography.

Navy Commander Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera and Acting Additional Secretary (Defence) Harsha Vithanaarachchi were also present at the occasion.
