SAE International® Presents the Mobility Industry’s Highest Honors During WCX in Detroit

SAE Awards Recognize Outstanding Achievements and Profound Impact on Mobility


WARRENDALE, Pa. (April 23, 2024) - SAE International® announced the 2024 SAE International Award recipients at a ceremony held during WCX™- World Congress Experience in Detroit, Mich. The SAE International Award Ceremony, hosted by Rhonda Walker, honors innovators, leaders, industry trendsetters, educators and students who have demonstrated excellence and have significant achievements in mobility industry innovation, technology advancement and education.

The SAE Medal of Honor is a highly prestigious award that pays tribute to an SAE member's unique and significant contributions, which have strengthened SAE's ability to further its mission and have proven to be a major factor in the organization's success. The 2024 SAE's Medal of Honor recipient is Dr. Mehdi Ahmadian. Dr. Ahmadian is the J.B. Jones Chair of Mechanical Engineering at Virgina Tech where he serves as Director of the Center for Vehicle Systems and Safety, Advanced Vehicle Dynamics Laboratory, and the Railway Technologies Laboratory.

He has authored more than 400 publications and has made more than 300 technical presentations including a number of keynote lectures. He holds 11 patents and has edited four technical volumes. He is a Fellow of SAE International and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

  • Medal: Dr. Kelly Senecal, Co-founder and Owner, Convergent Science
  • Paper: Mansour Masoudi, Sahm Noorfeshan, and Nick Poliakov
Rodica Baranescu Award for Technical and Leadership Excellence
  • Becky Mueller, Senor Research Engineer at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety
The Henry Ford II Distinguished Award for Excellence in Automotive Engineering
  • John Waraniak, CEO and Founder, Have Blue, LLC

Awards recognizing leaders of industry and academia, as well as student leaders, innovators and humanitarians who have made an indelible mark within their respective fields, institutions, communities were also presented. In all, nearly 50 individuals were recognized during the 2024 awards ceremony.
