HAMILTON COUNTY: Weekly Construction Update

Through the week ending May 11, 2024: The following traffic advisory includes restrictions on the state highway system in Hamilton County. All work will be contingent upon the weather. INTERSTATE 71 CONSTRUCTION

I-71/Kennedy Avenue Ramp Construction - Construction of a new ramp from I-71 North to Kennedy Avenue and reconstruction of the ramp to I-71 from Kennedy. The right lane of I-71 North is closed from just south of the Kennedy Avenue ramp through June 3. Although crews will be working along the on-ramp from Kennedy to I-71, the ramp will remain open with traffic maintained in a shifted lane.

I-71/Walnut Street Bridge Rehabilitation - At the structure on Walnut Street that carries traffic over I-71 in the city of Cincinnati. Lane restrictions will be in effect on southbound I-71/Fort Washington Way, and traffic will be maintained in two, 12-foot lanes from 7 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. the following day. All work is scheduled to be completed in early fall.

INTERSTATE 75 CONSTRUCTION

I-75/Mill Creek Expressway Major Rehabilitation - Major rehabilitation project at the I-74/75 interchange to widen and resurface I-75 between Paddock Road and the Western Hills Viaduct and reconfigure the interchange. Work also includes interchange improvements at Hopple Street, I-74, Mitchell Avenue, Norwood Lateral and Paddock Road. Various lane and shoulder restrictions may be in effect on the mainline and at affected ramps within the project zone during evening and overnight hours.

I-75 Thru the Valley Major Rehabilitation - Between Glendale-Milford Road and the Kemper Road overpass. Restrictions may also be in effect on the Sharon Road overpass for bridge work, as well as intermittent restrictions at the ramps. In addition, the following restrictions will be in effect on the mainline:

May 6-July 1:

  • Single-lane closure on I-75 North and South, between Glendale-Milford Road and the I-275 interchange, beginning at 8 p.m. each night, followed by double-lane closures at 11 p.m., with all restrictions lifted by 6 a.m. the following day. A minimum of one lane in each direction will be maintained during pavement resurfacing.

I-275 SmartLane Paving - On I-275 West, between the Loveland Madeira Road and Reed Hartman Highway interchanges. Beginning May 6, single-lane closure will be in effect nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day for pavement work. The evening and overnight restriction is subject to be in effect through late May.

NEW IMPACTS

S.R. 562 (Norwood Lateral) Bridge Rehabilitation - Single-lane closure on westbound S.R. 562 at the Ross Avenue overpass, Wednesday-Friday, May 8-10, nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day. The single-lane closure will also be in effect Monday, May 13, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 14.

U.S. 27 (Colerain Avenue) Sidewalk Reconstruction - Between Jonrose Avenue and Shadycrest Drive. Lane restrictions (lane shifts) will be in effect. Traffic will be maintained in two lanes in each direction. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in early fall of 2024.

U.S. 50 (Columbia Parkway/Wooster Pike) Bridge Rehabilitation & Resurfacing - At locations between the Red Bank Road overpass and Settle Road in Fairfax and between the western corporation limit of Terrace Park and Drewry Farm Lane. Westbound U.S. 50 traffic between Red Bank and Settle roads, has been placed in a contraflow lane, and this will be in effect through late November. In addition, the exit from Red Bank Expressway to U.S. 50 West has been closed, and traffic is being detoured via Wooster Pike to westbound U.S. 50. The ramp from Red Bank Expressway to eastbound U.S. 50 will be closed intermittently during the overnight hours, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day, for deck removal operations, and during periods of closure, traffic will also be detoured via Wooster Pike. Additional traffic impacts may be in effect throughout the project, and all work is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2025.

CONTINUING IMPACT

Greater Elstun Connection Shared-Use Path - From the Little Miami Scenic Trail near the S.R. 125/S.R. 32 interchange east to Spindlehill Drive. Construction is under way, and intermittent lane restrictions will be in effect on S.R. 32 and S.R. 125 (Beechmont Avenue) throughout the project. The project is scheduled to be completed in late spring of 2026.

C.R. 605 (E. McMillan Street) Bridge Rehabilitation - Over U.S. Route 42 (Reading Road), between Highland and Iowa avenues in Cincinnati. Single-lane closures may be in effect on northbound Reading Road, daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and additional restrictions may be in place on McMillan Street at various times. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2024.

S.R. 32 Culvert Rehabilitation - In eastern Hamilton County, between Eight Mile Road and the Clermont County line. Crews are working off the roadway, along the eastbound side of the route. Intermittent, single-lane closures may be in effect during daytime hours of operation. The project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2024.

S.R. 562/Norwood Lateral Rehabilitation - Between the Paddock Road interchange and I-71. Directional closures will be in effect during the first phase of construction for bridge work, and the Lateral is closed in the eastbound direction through late May. This will be followed by an 80-day closure in the westbound direction beginning in early June. While the Lateral is closed in either direction, thru-traffic will be detoured by way of I-75, Fort Washington Way or S.R. 126/Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway, and I-71. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in June 2025.
