US HDG/CRC: Cold rolled falls on lower price

US hot-dipped galvanized (HDG) pricing remained flat as galvanized supply appears to tighten while cold-rolled coil (CRC) prices continued falling.

The Argus weekly US HDG price was flat for the second consecutive week at $860/short ton (st) while the CRC price fell by $25/st to $880/st, both on an ex-works basis.

HDG pricing remained flat as repeatable prices were reported between $830-870/st, while some higher attempted offer levels were reported at $900/st.

Planned maintenance outages appear to be crimping HDG supply and leading to a short-term strengthening. One steelmaker was reported to be limited on supply through the rest of the year while another was filling up, possibly because the first has limited availability.

HDG lead times pushed out to 8-9 weeks from 7-8 weeks, indicating lead times into mid- to late-November.

CRC pricing continued to fall as one buyer reported purchasing a little more than 200st at $880/st, with other price offer levels reported between $870-910/st.

CRC lead times also extended to 8-9 weeks from 7-8 weeks.
