Investigation into Fatal Stabbing at 3815 Mernard Street

April 15, 2024- The fatal stabbing of a man at 3815 Mernard Street about 8:20 a.m. on Saturday (April 13) is being referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The deceased male is identified as Marcus Burks, 48.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Dudley and Detective K. Heaverlo reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to an assault in progress call and found Mr. Burks unresponsive with stab wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.

A female, 46, was detained at the scene. A preliminary investigation and statements from the female indicated she got into an argument with the male, with whom she had a relationship, and stabbed him in self-defense.

After contacting the Harris County District Attorney's Office, it was determined the incident will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
