State Police Investigating Two-Vehicle Fatal Crash in Newark

The Delaware State Police are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred early this morning in Newark that left one man dead.

On May 1, 2024, at approximately 7:23 a.m., a silver 2014 Toyota 4Runner was traveling eastbound on Capitol Trail approaching the intersection with Brewster Drive. Simultaneously, a white 2006 Cadillac DTS was traveling northbound on Brewster Drive approaching the intersection with Capitol Trail. For reasons under investigation, the Toyota failed to stop at the traffic light as the Cadillac entered the intersection. As a result, the front of the Toyota collided with the left side of the Cadillac in the intersection.

The driver of the Cadillac, a 61-year-old man from Newark, Delaware, was transported to an area hospital, where he died. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

The driver of the Toyota, a 22-year-old man from Newark, Delaware, was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues investigating this incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this crash to contact Corporal P.
