Alpharetta Invites Kids To Redesign Wacky World Playground

The City of Alpharetta is excited to announce the rebuild of Wacky World playground at Wills Park. The playground will be designed with the input of local children and feature a range of new equipment, improved accessibility, enhanced safety features and inclusive play structures.

Children are invited to use their imagination and draw their dream playground. Drawing forms can be downloaded at www.wackyworld.org and should be submitted via email to [email protected].

Alpharetta Elementary School will serve as the location for the community unveiling of the initial playground design. The public is invited to attend this exciting event on Tuesday, March 28th at 5:30 PM.

Wacky World's story began in May of 1997 as a community-driven project. The community came together to build Alpharetta's destination playground in just 6 days. 2,673 volunteers worked to build a 1-acre playground suitably named by the local school children as Wacky World. The spirit to come together and participate was infectious, and 26 years later, Alpharetta hopes to replicate those moments as they rebuild the playground in Spring of 2024.

"Rebuilding Wacky World is a testament to our commitment to creating fun and safe outdoor spaces for children of all ages and abilities," said Director of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Services, Morgan Rodgers. "By involving our community in the design process, we're making sure that this playground meets the needs and interests of children and provides for a great degree of 'funability' at the new and improved Wacky World."

Alpharetta Parks & Recreation Bonds will fund a portion of the project, but please consider volunteering, or donating funds, materials, and services. With the community's help, Wacky World can be an accessible playground for all to enjoy.
