West River's Edge Boat Launch Open for 2024

The West River's Edge Boat Launch is now OPEN for the 2024 season.

Please note that the boat launch may close without notice due to changing river conditions.

Here are some boating basics

1. Always wear a lifejacket or personal flotation device!
Don't just have it in the boat, wear it.

2. Don't drink and boat
Consumption of alcohol while boating is illegal. Alcohol increases the effects of fatigue, sun, wind and boat motion leading to impaired balance, judgement and reaction time.

3. Get Boat Safety Training
Take an Accredited Pleasure Craft Operator Card test. The course will teach you the "rules of the road", how to respond in a boating emergency, and how to operate a pleasure craft safely.

4. Create a Checklist
This way you'll remember to check the weather, pack your first aid kit and map your route. Flares and whistles are good items to pack too!

5. Wear the Right Gear!
Your life jacket is equally as important as sunglasses, sunscreen and weather appropriate clothing.

6. Drive Responsibly
Look where you're headed, watch for bad weather and drive at moderate speeds. Here are some other items to be aware of:
• Children under 16 years are not permitted to operate a PWC (i.e. seadoos and jetskis)
• Children under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult to operate a boat with a motor of more than 7.5 KW (10 HP)
• Children 12 to 15 years must be accompanied by an adult to operate a boat with a motor of more than 30 KW (40 HP)

7. Follow the Rules of the Road. Be courteous of others using the waterways and obey all boating rules. Always watch out for swimmers, boaters, water-skiers and tube riders.
