From Supporting Growing Families & Girls’ Education to Mental Health & Music Enrichment Programs: Hearst Foundations Announce Spring Grants Totaling Over $22 Million

With a legacy rooted in advancing social good, Hearst Foundations provides grants to nonprofit institutions that help people live healthy and productive lives.

Making more than $22,200,000 in spring grants to 80 organizations across the country, Hearst Foundations continued to support longtime partner NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York, NY, awarding the hospital a $10 million grant to help fund a new building for cancer care at the NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Providing more assistance to health and social services initiatives, the foundations supported HappyBottoms in Kansas City, MO, which also partners with Hearst's KMBC-TV, and works to provide diapers for families in need.

More groups supported this spring include National Dance Institute of New Mexico in Santa Fe, NM, which fosters community outreach programs for youth, and Carnegie Hall in New York, NY, which promotes professional development, community engagement and music education. Additionally, the foundations backed the mission of other educational programs like Julia Morgan School for Girls in Oakland, CA, which helps girls excel academically and professionally, especially in math and science-related fields.

Operating independently from Hearst, Hearst Foundations has distributed more than 22,525,000 grants to 6,335 organizations, totaling $1.465 billion, with nearly 360 grants and $54 million distributed in 2022 alone.

Grant proposals are submitted by organizations around the country and reviewed by staff based in New York City and San Francisco. These requests are then brought to the board of directors for approval each quarter.
