Hershey Bears Triumphant in Hockey Fights Cancer Game

On Sunday, November 21, 2021, theHershey Bears hockey club hosted Hockey Fights Cancer, a league-wide initiative to raise awareness and funds for cancer research and treatment. Outfitted in special Hockey Fights Cancer jerseys, the team took to the ice in chocolate and lavender, the official color of the month-long effort that represents all cancers and could be seen throughout GIANT Center. TheBears hosted the Charlotte Checkers and both teams stood on the ice holding 'I Fight For' signs during the 'Moment of Fight' just before the game started. Fans also held signs with names of survivors, those currently fighting cancer, or in remembrance of those lost. Although The Bears defeated the Checkers 4-2, the real win was raising needed funds in the fight against cancer. Following the game, the specialty jerseys were auctioned with a portion of the proceeds going to Hospice of Central PA and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The annual game is part of the club's Hershey Bears Cares community initiative.

The Hershey Bears were proud to welcome a special guest to the game. Hunter is currently being treated at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. The Four Diamonds organization contacted the hockey club about Hunter and his family, all longtime fans of the team. Bryan Helmer, VP of Hockey Operations, Dan 'Beaker' Stuck, team trainer, and Dr. Matt Silvis, team doctor, surprised Hunter with a Hockey Fights Cancer jersey that the whole team signed and a few special video greetings from Bears players. The suite was also decorated with dozens of 'I Fight For' signs in honor of Hunter. We are in your corner Hunter and thank you for being such a wonderful fan! It was a pleasure meeting you and your tremendous family.
