Kansas City, Mo. - Modern archery equipment, especially compound bows, has made target archery shooting an accessible sport for all ages and abilities. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is offering a free family Archery and Sunset Strollevent from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at the Burr Oak Woods Nature Center in Blue Springs.

This program combines archery instruction and target shooting with an interpretive nature hike on the Hickory Grove Trail. Lisa Richter, MDC naturalist, will teach fundamental archery techniques and safety. Richter will also point out facts about wildflowers, trees, and wildlife spotted along the trail during the hike. Individuals and families with little or no experience are welcome to attend.

MDC will provide bows and arrows for the target shooting. This class is open to participants ages 5 and older. Smaller bows and shorter arrows are available for use by children ages 5 to 7. One adult is required to attend with every two children ages 8 to 11. Participants will need to wear closed-toed shoes and dress for the weather.

Registration is required. To register, visit http://short.mdc.mo.gov/4BN. For more information about Burr Oak Woods Nature Center, the conservation area surrounding the center, and hiking trails, visit https://mdc.mo.gov/burroakwoods.
