PVAMU’s Spring 2024 Commencement: An Essential Guide to Graduation Day

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (May 3, 2024) - Prairie View A&M University's 142nd Spring Commencement Convocation is approaching. Congratulations to all Panthers who will soon walk the stage and earn their degrees!

As the beginning of the final journey to alumni-hood commences, here are some essential tips to ensure commencement day goes well for graduates, friends and loved ones.

Ceremony Information for Grads

PVAMU will hold three ceremonies in the William "Billy" J. Nicks, Sr. Building (Baby Dome) on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11. Graduate Studies (doctoral and master's candidates) will graduate at 6 p.m. on Friday.

On Saturday at 8 a.m., graduation candidates will be celebrated under the College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources; School of Architecture; Marvin D. and June Samuel Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences; Roy G. Perry College of Engineering; and Undergraduate Studies.

At 2 p.m., candidates for graduation from the College of Business; Whitlowe R. Green College of Education; College of Juvenile Justice; College of Nursing; and School of Public and Allied Health will walk the stage.

Candidates for graduation should report to the Student Recreation Center one hour before their commencement ceremony. The Academic Processional will begin 30 minutes before the start of each ceremony.Bags should be clear and smaller than 12 x 6 x 12 inches. Small clutch bags and purses do not have to be clear but cannot exceed 4.5 x 6.5 inches.

Ceremony Information for Guests

Doors will open for guests one hour before the start of each ceremony. There is no reserved seating, so please arrive early. Like bag requirements for grads, bags should be clear and smaller than 12 x 6 x 12 inches. One-gallon clear plastic storage bags are acceptable as well. Small clutch bags and purses do not have to be clear but cannot exceed 4.5 x 6.5 inches. Items typically carried in a diaper bag should be transferred to a clear plastic bag. Each guest entering the Baby Dome and the Alternative Viewing Sites, including children and infants, must have a ticket. Family and friends who cannot attend can view the ceremonies live on the University's official YouTube channel and the University's homepage.

Parking for Grads

Graduates will have designated reserved parking and will receive a special parking hang tag when they collect their tickets from their respective colleges/schools. From U.S. 290, they should exit Liendo Pkwy, the next exit past University Drive, and make a right at the stop sign. Follow the road to Wyatt Chapel Rd., and make a right. Make a right at the next stop sign, FM-1098, and enter campus at the West Gate. Parking attendants will be on hand to check the grads' hang tags and guide them into their parking spaces.

Parking for Guests

Parking attendants will be on hand to guide visitors to parking spaces. Please follow instructions closely, as doing so will allow for convenient event parking and exiting. Parking for the event is free, and no prior permission or parking pass is needed to park. Drivers are expected to follow all parking regulations set forth by the parking attendants.

Photo Ops

A third-party vendor, Balfour, will take official photographs of each ceremony. Graduates will be given order forms at commencement rehearsal to order photos. We also welcome grads and guests to post their photos to social media sites using the hashtags #PVGradSwag24 and #PVAMU!

Honor Cords, Regalia, and Gifts

Students graduating with honors will receive their honor cords at commencement rehearsal. The PVAMU University Bookstore can provide information about pricing and pick-up of caps and gowns, class rings, announcements, and PVAMU-branded gifts and alumni merchandise. Please visit their website for additional information. The on-campus store will be open Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
