Eastbound lane of North at College to close 24 hours May 13-18

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Beginning Monday, May 13, a section of the eastbound lane of E. North St. adjacent to the intersection with N. College Ave. will be closed to traffic 24 hours a day through Friday, May 18.

The one-block section of North - from College to N. Washington Ave. - has been closed during the day Monday through Saturday since April 15. Crews now will be working on pavement repairs that will require the section to be closed continuously for multiple days.

The work is being done as part of the first phase of the North Street Corridor project, which will bring much needed sidewalk and street improvements to one of Fayetteville's most important east-west corridors.

Improvements to the intersection include installing a dedicated turning lane on North for southbound traffic. Also, a crosswalk is being installed on the south side of the intersection, and new traffic signals are being installed.

Once work on the eastbound lane is complete, crews will transition to work on the north side of the street to continue making intersection improvements. During that time, the westbound lane between College and Washington will be closed 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. That work is anticipated to begin Monday, May 20, and take five weeks to complete.

Along with improvements to the intersection of College and North, other phases of the North Street Corridor project will include improvements from Garland to Gregg Ave. and improvements from College to Mission. These improvements will include sidewalks, shared-use paved trails, trees, lighting and intersection improvements.

The North Street Corridor project is funded by the Street Improvement Bond approved by Fayetteville residents in 2019. To learn more about this project, go to: https://www.fayetteville-ar.gov/3589/North-Street-Corridor.
