This month's video features the Bemiss Neighborhood, and elementary school, located in northeast Spokane, is named for David Bemiss the first superintendent of schools in Spokane. The adjacent neighborhood of Hillyard was once a separate city and the present day Bemiss Neighborhood grew up as part of both Hillyard and Spokane.
Warm weather is coming and that means more activities like events and also construction.

Getting involved with your neighborhood council is a way that citizens can help make an impact and influence important issues like public safety, transportation, housing, and community engagement. Interested in joining your neighborhood council? Here's how:
Find your neighborhood council. To find your neighborhood council, search your address in the map.
Attend a meeting. Just show up! Neighborhood council meetings are open to all residents and business owners within a neighborhood.
Attend virtually. Some neighborhoods offer a virtual option so you can still participate if you can't make it in person. Reach out to your neighborhood council's chair for more information.
Another way to get involved is to serve on a board or commission. The City is calling on its diverse and talented residents to apply for vacant positions, particularly those that are currently underrepresented.
Remember, you don't have to move to live in a better neighborhood!
