Premier Pillai attends Arctic Encounter Symposium in Anchorage

Citizens of the Yukon and Alaska share an extensive common border, strong social and Indigenous ties, and shared economic interests. As part of the Government of Yukon and the Government of Alaska's commitment to work closely together on matters of joint concern and mutual interest, Premier Ranj Pillai attended the Arctic Encounter Symposium in Anchorage on April 12.

Attending the largest Arctic-focused conference in the United States offers the Government of Yukon incredible exposure to American and global Arctic interests through meetings with ambassadors and lawmakers and discussions on issues of importance for Yukoners, including economic development, Arctic infrastructure development, job and workforce training, transportation, tourism, energy, the environment, fish and wildlife management and cross-border access.

On Friday, Premier Pillai participated in a plenary discussion titled "Arctic Investment Landscape: Opportunities for Growth and Development." Members of the panel discussed economic opportunities in the North. Premier Pillai and Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy then held a panel session to discuss the renewed commitment to cooperation between the Yukon and Alaska, and highlighted outcomes from the Governor's visit to Whitehorse in February.

Outside of the conference agenda, Premier also met with the Governor and participated in a discussion session with political leaders attending the conference hosted by Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski and the Ted Stevens Center for Arctic Security Studies.

The Government of Yukon looks forward to maintaining a strong relationship with Alaska and advancing shared priorities that improve the prosperity, stability and wellbeing for both jurisdictions.
