Vice Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong Meets with Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Congo Bruno Jean Richard Itoua

On December 9, 2024, Vice Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong met with visiting Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Congo Bruno Jean-Richard Itoua.

Chen Xiaodong said that the friendship between China and the Republic of the Congo has a long history. Over the past 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and the Republic of the Congo have always trusted and supported each other, and achieved fruitful results in cooperation. During the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in September this year, the two heads of state held fruitful talks, jointly charting the course for the building of a high-level community with a shared future between China and the Republic of the Congo. China is ready to take the implementation of the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state and the outcome of the FOCAC as an opportunity to jointly fulfill the responsibilities of the FOCAC co-chairs, deepen cooperation in various fields, and promote the relations between China and the Republic of the Congo to continue leading the development of China-Africa relations.

Bruno Jean-Richard Itoua thanked the Chinese side for providing long-term valuable support for the economic and social development of the Republic of the Congo and Africa, appreciated the Belt and Road Initiative and the three global initiatives put forward by President Xi Jinping, and reiterated that the Republic of the Congo firmly abides by the one-China principle. He said the Republic of the Congo is very honored to assume the African co-chair of the FOCAC and will do its utmost to perform its duties and work with China to promote the development of the relationship between the Republic of the Congo and China, as well as the relationship between Africa and China.
