CORRECTED: Greens head for 'Loony Town'

By Mike Huckabee

Just when you think the "green" movement can't get any nuttier ("We're saving the planet by throwing soup on priceless artworks!"), they manage to dial up the crazy another notch. Like the French dairy giant that plans to reduce methane emissions by forcing cows to wear facemasks and diapers. As a Tennessee farmer described this so eloquently, "they've gone to loony town."

Farmer speaks out against forcing cows to wear diapers to contain methane emissions: 'Gone to loony town'

If they're going to keep emitting stuff like this from their mouths, they should start wearing diapers over their own faces. Let's hope they get into a rumble with radical animal rights activists and they wipe each other out.

Rough week for CNN

By Mike Huckabee

It's been a rough week for CNN. They're closing their iconic CNN Center in Atlanta (get your selfies with that famous logo while you can.)

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/chris-queen/2023/01/17/cnn-is-closing-its-iconic-cnn-center-in-atlanta-n1662473

And if you want to know why they're cost-cutting, this might provide a clue. According to last week's cable news ratings, Fox News now has the top 17 highest-rated shows. MSNBC finally shows up at #18 with Chris Hayes. And CNN doesn't appear until Jake Tapper's show pops up at #28.

https://redstate.com/bradslager/2023/01/18/ratings-implosion-cnns-entire-primetime-lineup-fails-to-equal-the-audience-of-one-fox-program-n690533

How far has CNN's viewership fallen? The #1 show on the list, Fox News' "The Five," which airs at 5 pm, has an audience larger than all seven of CNN's prime time shows combined!

I think someone should investigate to see if maybe someone at CNN caused the recent airline cancellation fiasco in a desperate attempt to boost ratings by stranding people at airports.

Adam Schiff lines up his opponents

By Mike Huckabee

Former child star Ben Savage of the '90s sitcom "Boy Meets World" has reportedly registered to run for Adam Schiff's House seat in 2024. He's one of six Democrats vying for that seat, along with one Republican (in West Hollywood!) But Savage did intern for Republican Sen. Arlen Specter.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/boy-meets-world-actor-ben-savage-running-california-house-district-30-report

I know nothing about Savage's political views, but I can still suggest the perfect campaign slogan for him: "He's got to be better than Adam Schiff!"

"Good news/Bad news" story

By Mike Huckabee

Here's one of those "good news/bad news" stories. The bad news is that the movie ticket website Fathom Events crashed and went offline temporarily. The good news is that it was because there was such a demand for tickets to the theatrical showing of the third season finale of "The Chosen." That's the series about the life of Christ that's the most successful crowd-funded series ever.

https://www.foxnews.com/media/chosen-fans-crash-movie-site-tens-thousands-rush-purchase-tickets

What's even more amazing is that there's such a huge demand to buy tickets when it will be available to stream for free just a few days later. But people want to see it on the big screen. You'd think the Hollywood studios would take a lesson from this, but I predict they will not.

There's more info about the screening at the link above. And if you want to learn more about this fantastic series, here's my interview from last year with the show's creator, Dallas Jenkins, and its star Jonathan Roumie on "Huckabee" on TBN.

Shocking story

Mia Cathall of Townhall.com is doing a stellar job of journalism that the mainstream media deliberately refuses to touch with her four-part investigative report on a married gay couple in Georgia, both aggressive LGBTQ activists, who were allowed to adopt two boys and allegedly physically and sexually abused them in horrific ways. This is a shocking story, and one that's so disturbing, I don't even want to describe it. I'll just urge you to read it in full. This is the third and latest installment, with links to the first two parts right at the beginning. Steel yourselves.

Big-spender Biden brags about deficit reduction

By Mike Huckabee

President Biden had one of his creepy "whisper into the microphone" moments this week, this time bragging that thanks to his policies, "The deficit is on track to drop by more than $1 trillion this year, the largest-ever one-year decline." So is there any truth to that? Only partially. Very partially.

https://townhall.com/columnists/terryjeffrey/2023/01/18/bidens-proposal-increase-debt-by-578-n2618411

As Terry Jeffrey at Townhall.com explains at the link, we still have massive deficits. This year's is lower than the previous two years, but hardly because of Biden's prudent fiscal policies. It's because he was comparing this year's over-spending to the previous years' unprecedented, "hair-on-fire" pandemic spending that sent the deficit soaring to over $3 trillion. It would be very hard to keep blowing that much money with the pandemic over, not that the Democrats didn't try.

Jeffrey points out that the true effect of Biden's wise fiscal policies is buried on the last two pages of his 143-page budget proposal. That's where it's predicted that under his plan, over the 11 fiscal years from the start of his term, from 2021 to 2032, the total federal debt will grow to a mind-bending $44.797 trillion, an increase of 57.8% from the time he took office. That averages out to a deficit of nearly $1.5 trillion every year for over a decade. It's also more debt in just 11 years than was accumulated in 233 years, from 1776 to 2009.

If there is any bright spot in this dark cloud of debt, it's that all that Democrat (with the help of some Senate Republicans) spending has pushed us to the point that the government will hit its official debt ceiling of $31.381 trillion today. That gives House Republicans, who would have to vote to raise it, some serious leverage for demanding clawbacks of some of the drunken sailor spending passed last month before they could take office. Naturally, the Biden White House is refusing to negotiate (there's never a single dime of federal spending that isn't absolutely essential, not even the $163 billion in COVID relief funds that were just stolen.)

https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/163-billion-covid-relief-stolen-republicans-must-get-bottom-it

And of course, Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) will resort to their well-worn cliché of accusing Republicans of being "irresponsible" and threatening to shut down the government and starve widows and orphans if they don't get endless increases on their maxed-out credit card limit. (FYI: essential services never shut down, and anything that does must be nonessential, so why are we going into debt for it?) I love that it's never the people who have saddled our grandkids with a $31 trillion debt (so far) who are called "irresponsible;" it's only the people who object to making it even higher.

Of course, the "debt limit" is purely hypothetical anyway. To our current political class, the very concept of a "debt limit" is incomprehensible. It's like expecting John Kerry to understand humility.

I encourage the House Republicans to stand their ground and use whatever leverage they have to take back the power of the purse, which is rightfully theirs under the Constitution, and that is why the voters put them in charge. Who knows, they might actually find a surprise ally or two among the Democrats.

https://www.breitbart.com/clips/2023/01/19/manchin-debt-ceiling-hike-should-be-tied-to-agreement-on-starting-to-reduce-debt/

Let's just hope there are more than Joe Manchin, since he alone is not enough even to overcome all the Senate Republicans who voted with the Democrats for the Omnibus Spending Orgy bill.

Alec Baldwin faces charges

After a year of investigation, prosecutors in New Mexico announced that Alec Baldwin will face two counts of felony involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie "Rust." The film's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was responsible for making sure the gun Baldwin used wasn't loaded, is also charged with two counts of felony manslaughter. If convicted, Baldwin could face up to 18 months in prison.

Wait, we have a Border Czar?!?

By Mike Huckabee

New York Mayor Eric Adams called for the appointment of a border czar, apparently unaware that we already have one.

https://www.cnsnews.com/article/washington/melanie-arter/nyc-mayor-eric-adams-calls-border-czar-unaware-thats-vp-harris-job

I don't hold it against him. I don't think that our border czar is aware that she's the border czar, either.
