Coppin State University Celebrates the Achievements of Over 350 Graduates at Spring 2024 Commencement

Coppin State University's Physical Education Complex was filled with nearly 4,000 attendees to celebrate the achievements of more than 350 graduates during its Spring 2024 Commencement Ceremony. The event marked a significant milestone for the students, their families, and the entire Coppin State community.

The commencement address was delivered by Dr. Linda L. Singh, Founder and CEO of Kaleidoscope Affect LLC, and a retired Major General from the Maryland National Guard. In her keynote address, Dr. Singh uplifted the graduates, which included three (3) honorary, 10 doctoral, 32 master's, and 329 bachelor's degree recipients.

"Class of 2024, you are the new leaders of tomorrow. Whether you lead in classrooms, boardrooms, or laboratories, remember that your actions set the tone for those around you. Inspire others by your commitment to excellence, by your willingness to serve, and uplift your community," said Dr. Singh. "I challenge you to dream boldly, be bodacious, remain steadfast in adversity, and approach each day with curiosity and integrity. Step forward with courage and embrace your journey with passion."

The ceremony began with graduates processing from the campus library to the field, led by President Jenkins, and Vaple Robinson, Ph.D., Interim Chairperson of the Department of Graduate Nursing, who served as Grand Marshal. This symbolic tradition, passing the statue of Fanny Jackson Coppin, the university's namesake, marked the transition of the students into Coppin State alumni.

"Sometimes we are not tested to reveal our weaknesses; rather, we are tested to demonstrate our strengths. Regardless of where you started, regardless of how long it took you, today you are a graduate of Coppin State University," said President Jenkins. "Coppin University is a better institution because you have passed through it, and you are a better scholar because you have experienced Coppin. The world is waiting, so go soar."

Family, friends, faculty, and staff cheered on the graduates as they crossed the stage to receive their diplomas. The atmosphere was electric with pride and joy, as graduates reflected on their journeys and looked forward to their futures.

Coppin State University Professor Brothers-Gray, Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Forensic Investigations in the Criminal Justice Department, had the honor of meeting her daughter, Natalie Gray, on stage to present her with her diploma. Gray graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in biology and life science.

Tasia White honored her late mother by accepting her diploma with a portrait, following in her footsteps as a Coppin State alumna. White graduated from Coppin's RN to BSN program.

Coppin State University's Spring 2024 Commencement was not merely a celebration of academic success; it was a reaffirmation of the institution's dedication to fostering excellence, leadership, and service. As the ceremony concluded, graduates left with a sense of accomplishment and a readiness to soar and make their mark on the world.
