About the Garvin Gate Blues Festival

The Festival grew from outdoor jam sessions in the parking lot of the Rudyard Kipling in 1988. The music became popular, and the neighborhood wanted to expand the event. At the same time, the Garvin Gate Association enlarged their boundaries and reformed as the Garvin Gate Neighborhood Association. They were looking to host an annual event, and the partnership was created. Now 27 years strong, the festival attracts a multiracial and intergeneration audience.
