CCSD Students Earn Honors at State Technology Careers Competition

Cherokee County School District students earned honors at the state Technology Student Association career skills competition, with top winners advancing to nationals!

The annual statewide event offers middle and high school students the opportunity to compete in a variety of contests focused on technology related career skills. The top three winners in each contest earn a spot in the national Technology Student Association (TSA) competition to be held this summer in Louisville, Ky. Nearly 3,000 students competed at the state event, with 85 different contests offered.

Creekland Middle School is CCSD's only middle school with a TSA chapter and saw one of its teams earn first place at the state competition! The team of eighth-graders Graham Bauch, Henry Diaz, Jack Gluckson and Brad Rodriguez won the Off the Grid contest. The team is coached by teachers Anne Benton, Connie Garrison and Logan Hostetter. The school also earned top 10 placements in six other contests.

"Congratulations to all of our award winners and best wishes to those advancing to nationals!" Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. "We're so proud to see our students succeed in mastering technology and career skills that will help them in their future paths. Thank you to our outstanding teachers for guiding these students in their classwork and continuing that teaching and mentoring after school through coaching these teams."

The Cherokee County School Board and Dr. Hightower will recognize Creekland Middle School's first-place team at an upcoming school board meeting.

Three teams from Creekview High School earned spots at nationals by placing in the top three. Bailey Hancock and Sydney Neff placed second in Debating Technical Issues, Max McMahan and Nathan Sewell placed second in Structural Engineering and Noah Clary, Johnny Schaly and Matthew Short placed third in System Control Technology. Their teacher coach is Terri Hancock, and the school also earned top 10 placements in nine other contests and placed ninth for overall outstanding chapter.

Woodstock High School earned a national spot for its second-place win in Video Game Design by Carson Bove, Connor Bunyard, Kaiden Hughes, Tahsin Kazi, Brayden Kinsey and Rhett Ward. Their teacher coach is Melanie Salas, and the school also earned top 10 placements in six other contests.
