Haller fires the Ivory Coast into the Africa Cup of Nations final

Sebastien Haller proved to be the hero for the Ivory Coast in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final. The 29-year-old scored the only goal of the game in the 65th minute against DR Congo on Wednesday evening and fired his team into the final on home soil. Côte d'Ivoire will face Nigeria in the final at 21:00 CET on Sunday.

Having missed the first three games of the tournament due to an injury, the striker came off the bench as a substitute in the round of 16 clash with Senegal and the quarter-final against Mali. Haller then made his first start against DR Congo in front of 60,000 spectators in Abidjan.

The Ivory Coast came out on top in an even semi-final thanks to the Dortmund forward. There were 65 minutes on the clock when Max Gradel broke though down the right wing and teed up Haller with a cross into the middle. The Borussia player took the ball first-time and it bounced over the keeper and into the net. Haller's first goal at the tournament decided the match and put the Ivory Coast into their first AFCON final since 2015. And on home soil too! The BVB player was brought off after 90 minutes and replaced by Jean-Philippe Krasso of Red Star Belgrade. Haller and his country will do battle for the African crown at 21:00 CET on Sunday.
