PANGKALPINANG -- PT Timah Tbk is distributing environmental social responsibility (TJSL) programs to support the construction of dozens of places of worship in the company's operational areas.

A total of 35 places of worship in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province and the Riau Islands Province received assistance from PT Timah Tbk in mid-January-September 2023.

Houses of worship that receive assistance from PT Timah Tbk include mosques, prayer rooms, churches, and temples.

The assistance provided by PT Timah Tbk is not only for construction but also to support the infrastructure of the place of worship.

Members of the MIND ID mining industry holding also often support community religious activities such as commemorating religious holidays in the company's operational areas.

Apart from that, it also supports religious education facilities such as TPA and TPQ.

One of the mosques that received assistance from PT Timah Tbk is the Al-Iman Mosque, West Kundur Village, Karimun Regency. Al Iman Mosque administrator Sukarman said they used assistance from PT Timah Tbk to repair drainage around the mosque. This is because during the rainy season, the mosque is often flooded with water which disturbs the comfort of the congregation.

"This assistance will be used to repair drainage channels around the mosque. During the rainy season, the area around the mosque often floods because water from the road enters the area around the mosque, so we will make drainage so that rainwater does not flood around the mosque," he said.

Another mosque that received assistance from PT Timah Tbk, is Al-Ihsan Mosque in Lalang Hamlet, Mentawak Village, Kelapa Kampit District, East Belitung Regency.

Chairman of the Al-Ihsan Mosque Foundation and BKM, Haliliasi, said that they had started building the new Al Ihsan mosque three years ago. However, it is still not finished because it relies on community self-funding.

The initial idea for building a new mosque was because the condition of the mosque was old and the capacity was too small so on Fridays, especially Eid, it could not accommodate the congregation and the congregation had to be outside the mosque.

"The process of building this mosque started by piling up land for one year and in 2019 construction just started. So PT Timah Tbk's assistance was very good and supported the process of building this mosque," he said. (*)
